Regular Season Round 13: Niigata - JX Sunflowers 39-89

WJBL top team - JX Sunflowers (11-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Airlines R. (3-10) in Tokyo 89-39. The game without a history. JX Sunflowers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Airlines R. to just 2 points in second quarter. JX Sunflowers dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Airlines R.'s 30. JX Sunflowers forced 20 Airlines R. turnovers and outrebounded them 47-21 including a 30-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. JX Sunflowers players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Airlines R.'s players. The former international power forward Yuka Mamiya (184-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and international center Hiromi Suwa (183-85) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. Five JX Sunflowers players scored in double figures. JX Sunflowers' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side international forward Reika Takahashi (177-88) responded with 12 points and 8 rebounds and guard Seiko Kawakami (165-88) scored 8 points. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for JX Sunflowers. Defending champion maintains first place with 11-2 record, which they share with Toyota A. Airlines R. lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the seventh position with ten games lost. JX Sunflowers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Airlines R. will play again on the road against the league's leader JX Sunflowers (#1) in Kashiwa and hopes to get back on the winning track.
