Regular Season Round 6: Toyota Alvark - Hitachi SR 87-51

An interesting game for Toyota Alvark (10-2) which hosted in Fuchu 3rd ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (8-4). First ranked Toyota Alvark had an easy win 87-51. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hitachi Sunrockers. The game without a history. Toyota Alvark led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Sunrockers' 20. They outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 39-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. American forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) supported him with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Even 7 points and 6 rebounds by American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) did not help to save the game for Hitachi Sunrockers. International guard Fumio Nishimura (177-86) added 8 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyota Alvark have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-2 record, which they share with Aishin SH. Loser Hitachi Sunrockers keep the third place with four games lost. Toyota Alvark will meet league's leader Aishin Sea Horses in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hitachi Sunrockers will play against Mitsubishi Dolphins in Nagoya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
