The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Varsity Reds as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Varsity Reds edged 5th ranked Sea Hawks in Fredericton, NB 94-92 in overtime. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime then Sea Hawks managed to tie the game at the end of regular time. However that was Varsity Reds who were better in overtime eventually winning that period 11-9. They made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Varsity Reds forced 23 Sea Hawks turnovers. Strangely Sea Hawks outrebounded Varsity Reds 37-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Varsity Reds especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 60.0 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Daniel Quirion (183) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Alex Desroches (193) contributed with 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Varsity Reds' coach Brent Baker used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Jason Shepherd (193-89) replied with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists and forward Robbie Habib (193-89) added 27 points in the effort for Sea Hawks. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 8 other teams. Sea Hawks at the other side keep the fifth place with three games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Sea Hawks will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Varsity Reds will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Huskies in Halifax, VS.
