Regular Season Round 5: UBC - TWU 104-75
Date: November 17, 2011
Rather predictable result in Vancouver, BC where leader Thunderbirds (3-0) smashed 7th ranked Spartans (2-3) 104-75 on Thursday. The game without a history. Thunderbirds led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Thunderbirds forced 20 Spartans turnovers and outrebounded them 36-22 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Spartans were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Swingman Kamar Burke (196-86) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and American guard Doug Plumb (193, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) chipped in 25 points. American forward Kyle Coston (203-87, college: Portland St.) responded with 19 points and the other American import guard Tristan Smith (183-86) scored 15 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Five Thunderbirds and four Spartans players scored in double figures. Spartans' coach already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Thunderbirds have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Spartans dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. Thunderbirds will face again Spartans (#7) in Langley, BC in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game.
