Very expected game when 9th ranked Wesmen (2-4) was smashed by fourth ranked Golden Bears (4-2) in Winnipeg, MB 84-56 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Golden Bears. Wesmen was better in second period 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Golden Bears especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. Wesmen was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for international guard Jordan Baker (192-91, college: Utah Valley) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Daniel Ferguson (191, college: Valdosta St.) contributed with 22 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Forward Kelvin Smith (198) replied with 13 points and 5 rebounds and guard Craig Sharpe (178) added 13 points in the effort for Wesmen. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Golden Bears maintains fourth position with 4-2 record. Loser Wesmen dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. Golden Bears will have a break next round. Wesmen's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Winnipeg, MB Bisons.
