Regular Season Round 14: Handlova - Nova Ves 87-90

The most exciting game of round 14 in the Extraliga took place in Handlova. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Handlova (6-7) to fourth ranked Nova Ves (8-5) 90-87 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Handlova. The guests trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 25-15 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Nova Ves dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Handlova's 24. They outrebounded Handlova 42-24 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Pavol Losonsky (203-88, college: Cal-Irvine) scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Andrew Jones (208-87, college: Penn St.) chipped in 18 points and 18 rebounds during the contest. American swingman Anthony Jones (194-84, college: Indiana Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 assists and the former international center Milan Golian (206-74) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Five Nova Ves and four Handlova players scored in double figures. Nova Ves moved-up to third place. Handlova at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Nova Ves are looking forward to face Levice (#7) at home in the next round. Handlova will play against Komarno and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
