Regular Season Round 12: Stelmet ZG - Polpharma 87-82
Date: November 19, 2011
Very predictable result when third ranked Zastal ZG (7-2) won against 10th ranked Polpharma (3-8) in Zielona Gora 87-82 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Polpharma was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Polpharma was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Nigerian forward Gani Lawal (206-88, college: Georgia Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Ivorian-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) contributed with 22 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four Zastal ZG players scored in double figures. American guard Michael Hicks (193-83, college: Cent.Missouri) replied with 25 points and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import guard Tony Weeden (186-83, college: Chicago St.) added 13 points and 5 assists in the effort for Polpharma. Polpharma's coach Wojciech Kaminski let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Zastal ZG have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Loser Polpharma keeps the tenth position with eight games lost. Zastal ZG will face Trefl Sopot (#4) at home in the next round. Polpharma will play against the league's leader PGE Turow (#1) in Zgorzelec.
