The game in Cancun was also quite interesting. One of their biggest challengers Huracanes (16-10) played at the court of sixth ranked Pioneros (16-8). Pioneros did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 96-78 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Pioneros. Huracanes managed to win second period 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) who scored that evening 28 points and 7 rebounds and forward John Millsap (198-82, college: UTSA) supported him with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Millsap is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Pioneros players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds by center Albert Fuqua (211-83, college: UTSA) did not help to save the game for Huracanes. Power forward Robert Hornsby (196-82, college: Troy) added 18 points for lost side. Huracanes' coach tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Pioneros have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser Huracanes dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. Pioneros will again meet Huracanes (#6) in the next round. Huracanes will have a break next round.
