There was no surprise in Gwynneville where 8th ranked Wollongong Hawks (3-6) were defeated by third ranked Perth Wildcats (6-3) 86-70 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Perth Wildcats. Wollongong Hawks was better in second period 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Perth Wildcats dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Wollongong Hawks' 28. Perth Wildcats forced 24 Wollongong Hawks turnovers. The former international forward Shawn Redhage (203-81, college: Arizona St., agency: Warren Sports International) fired 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international power forward Matthew Knight (204-85, college: Loyola Mary) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Five Perth Wildcats players scored in double figures. Center Larry Davidson (206-83, college: Boise St.) produced 9 points and 9 rebounds and the former international power forward Oscar Forman (205-82) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Tigers. Loser Wollongong Hawks keep the eighth place with six games lost. Perth Wildcats will face Kings (#7) in Sydney in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
