The game between closely ranked teams ended with 4th placed Mitsubishi Dolphins' (5-9) road loss to third ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (10-4) 64-72 on Sunday. Mitsubishi Dolphins trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 20-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 64-72 at the end of the game. It was a great evening for Swedish forward Christian Maraker (206-82, college: Pacific) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (206-85, agency: N.E.T.) helped adding 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) responded with 22 points and American forward Ron Hale (203-77, college: Florida St.) scored 12 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hitachi Sunrockers maintains third place with 10-4 record behind leader Toyota Alvark. Loser Mitsubishi Dolphins dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face Hokkaido L. (#7) in Saporro in the next round. Mitsubishi Dolphins will play at home against Tochigi Brex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
