Regular Season Round 7: Valur - IR 86-92
Date: November 24, 2011
Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Valur (0-7) lost to seventh ranked IR (4-3) in Reykjavik 86-92 on Thursday. Valur trailed by 20 points at halftime and as many as 25 after three quarters before a 32-13 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 86-92 at the end of the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Italian guard James Bartolotta (193-86, college: MIT) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Robert Jarvis (180-87, college: ORU) contributed with 24 points for the winners. Four IR players scored in double figures. American guard Garrison Johnson (196-88, college: Jackson St., agency: Strategic Sports) answered with 23 points and 9 rebounds and Slovenian power forward Igor Tratnik (206-89) added 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) in the effort for Valur. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. IR moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Valur still closes the standings with seven games lost. IR will face higher ranked Stjarnan (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valur will play against Haukar (#11) in Hafnarfjordur and hopes to get finally their first victory.
