Regular Season Round 8: New Brunsw. - Cape Breton 71-76

There was a minor upset in Fredericton, NB where one of their biggest challengers Varsity Reds (2-3) were defeated by sixth ranked Capers (2-2) 76-71 on Friday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Varsity Reds won fourth quarter 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Capers made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jimmy Dorsey (188) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals and Arild Geugjes who added 19 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Capers players scored in double figures. Guard Alex Desroches (193) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds and guard Daniel Quirion (183) scored 18 points. Varsity Reds' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Capers moved-up to third place, which they share with McGill. Varsity Reds lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the second position with three games lost. Capers will have a break next round. Varsity Reds will play again at home against Capers in Sydney, NS and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
