Regular Season Round 17: Aishin AW - Niigata 68-66

The most exciting game of round 17 in the WJBL took place in Anjo. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Airlines R. (3-14) to eighth ranked Aishin Wings (2-15) 68-66 on Saturday evening. Airlines R. was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 16-12 charge of Aishin Wings, which allowed them to win the game. Power forward Kumi Yamamoto (179-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 4 assists. Forward Yuka Maeda (173-84) contributed with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. International forward Reika Takahashi (177-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and forward Nana Kondo (177-88) added 17 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Airlines R.Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Aishin Wings maintains eighth place with 2-15 record. Airlines R. lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 14 games lost. Aishin Wings are again looking forward to face higher ranked Airlines R. (#7) in Tokyo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Airlines R. will have a break next round.
