Regular Season Round 7: STU Tbilisi - Armia 71-112

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Armia (#1) and STU (#5). STU was crushed at home by 41 points 71-112 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game without a history. Armia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to STU's 40. Armia forced 20 STU turnovers and outrebounded them 55-33 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by STU's players. The former international forward Zviad Babiashvili (199-78) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. International swingman Anatoliy Boisa (195-83, college: Lincoln Memorial, agency: World Sport Agency) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Five Armia players scored in double figures. Guard George Khaniashvili (194-89) produced 18 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!) and guard Aleko Dzidziguri (195-88) added 14 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Armia (6-0) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 6 victories in a row. Newly promoted STU keeps the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with MIA Tbilisi. Armia are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Energy Invest (#11) in Rustavi in the next round and are hoping to win another game. STU's supporters also look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena TSU.
