Regular Season Round 9: Calgary - UBC 92-85

There was an upset in Calgary, AB where 4th placed Thunderbirds (4-2) were defeated by tenth ranked Dinos (3-5) 92-85 on Saturday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Dinos forced 28 Thunderbirds turnovers. Strangely Thunderbirds outrebounded Dinos 48-27 including a 21-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Thunderbirds were plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Tyler Fidler (206-89) who scored 25 points. Swingman Dustin Reding (201-88) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Dinos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Doug Plumb (193, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) who recorded 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Kamar Burke (196-86) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dinos moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Brandon. Loser Thunderbirds dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
