Regular Season Round 9: UPEI - Acadia 98-89

Everything went according to plan in Charlottetown, PEI where leader Panthers (6-0) won against 4th placed Axemen (2-3) 98-89 on Saturday. Axemen trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 34-27 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 89-98 at the end of the game. Panthers dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Axemen's 20 and made 32-of-41 free shots (78.0 percent) during the game. Panthers forced 21 Axemen turnovers and outrebounded them 44-26 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Axemen was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Donathan Moss who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Jonathan Cooper (183-88) chipped in 24 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Sean Stoqua (180) who recorded 25 points and forward Bradley States (198) added 17 points respectively. Four Panthers and five Axemen players scored in double figures. Axemen's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Panthers. They maintain first place with 6-0 record, which they share with Laurier and Carleton. Loser Axemen keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
