There was no surprise in Ciudad Victoria where 9th ranked Correcaminos (11-17) were crushed by fourth ranked Pioneros (19-9) 94-68 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Pioneros's pressure prevailed and they won that period 30-8 extending their advantage to 26 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Correcaminos' 32. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was forward John Millsap (198-82, college: UTSA) who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Worth to mention Millsap played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Five Pioneros players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Myron Allen (180-79, college: Lee JC) who recorded 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Steve Monreal (180, college: Cal.St.-Monterey) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pioneros have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 19-9 record. Loser Correcaminos dropped to the tenth place with 17 games lost. Pioneros will face higher ranked Toros (#3) in Nuevo Laredo in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Correcaminos will play on the road against Lechugueros (#11) in Leon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
