Regular Season Round 10: Cognac - Clermont 89-73

Very expected game when 15th ranked Stade Clermont (2-8) lost on the road to third ranked Cognac (8-2) 89-73 on Saturday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Cognac outrebounded Stade Clermont 45-32 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Stade Clermont was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for American center Ian Caskill (207-81, college: JMU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Mathieu Bigote (187-84) contributed with 23 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Cognac players scored in double figures. Cognac's coach Philippe Maucourant used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Bianco Matanga (188-87) replied with 21 points and 4 assists and American forward Jonathan McClark (200-77, college: Rider) added 15 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Stade Clermont. Cognac have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with St Quentin and Charleville. Stade Clermont lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth place with eight games lost. Cognac will face Saint-Quentin (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Stade Clermont will play against Angers BC 49 (#10) and be promoted back to the ProB just one year after relegation.
