Regular Season Round 15: Kataja - Korihait 95-66

No shocking result in a game when first ranked Joensuun Kataja (11-3) smashed at home 7th ranked UU-Korihait (6-8) 95-66 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Joensuun Kataja. UU-Korihait was better in second period 19-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Joensuun Kataja made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American swingman Jared Newson (195-84, college: Tennessee-Martin, agency: Court Side) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. The former international power forward Sami Lehtoranta (205-79) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures. Joensuun Kataja's coach Jukka Toijala felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Cory Johnson (200-88, college: Valparaiso, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) who recorded 22 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import point guard Shawn Vanzant (183-88, college: Butler) added 15 points respectively. Joensuun Kataja have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Joensuun Kataja maintains first place with 11-3 record. Loser UU-Korihait keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Joensuun Kataja will face KTP-Basket (#10) in Kotka in the next round and are hoping to win another game. UU-Korihait will play at home against LrNMKY in Lappeenranta and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
