Regular Season Round 6: Kavala - Panathinaikos 79-70

Undefeated Panathinaikos (4-1) recorded its first loss on the court of sixth ranked Kavala. Visitors were defeated by Kavala 79-70. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Panathinaikos. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Panathinaikos won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kavala shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. American guard Michael Taylor (188-86, college: Iowa St., agency: Priority Sports) notched 22 points to lead the effort and Bosnian guard Muhamed Pasalic (192-87, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 19 points. Even 17 points and 9 rebounds by American forward Steven Smith (203-83, college: La Salle) did not help to save the game for Panathinaikos. International guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) added 12 points. Panathinaikos' coach Zeljko Obradovic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kavala (4-2) moved-up to fifth place. Defending champion Panathinaikos keeps the third position with one game lost. They share it with Kolossos. Kavala will play against higher ranked Kolossos (#3) in Rodou in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Panathinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Ilysiakos.
