Regular Season Round 16: Salon Vilpas - Kouvot 73-78

Rather expected game when 9th ranked Salon Vilpas (5-10) lost at home to sixth ranked Kouvot (7-7) 78-73. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-15. But Salon Vilpas won second period 27-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Kouvot won last quarter 23-19. They made 22-of-29 charity shots (75.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Salon Vilpas turnovers and outrebounded them 42-30 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Anthony Brown (203-86, college: Oklahoma St., agency: KMG Sports Management) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and power forward Samuli Vanttaja (210-91) who added 11 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Four Kouvot players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Emmanuel Holloway (188-86, college: Illinois St.) responded with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and point guard Roope Ahonen (187-90, agency: FCM) scored 22 points. Salon Vilpas' coach Mikko Tupamaki tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Kouvot maintains sixth position with 7-7 record. Salon Vilpas lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with ten games lost. Kouvot will play against UU-Korihait (#8) in Uusikaupunki in the next round. Salon Vilpas will have a break next round.
