Regular Season Round 32: Abejas - Huracanes 75-85

Very expected game when 10th ranked Abejas (13-17) lost to fifth ranked Huracanes (20-11) in Guanajuato 75-85 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Huracanes. Abejas managed to win third quarter 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Huracanes forced 19 Abejas turnovers. The winners were led by American center Albert Fuqua (211-83, college: UTSA) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import power forward Robert Hornsby (196-82, college: Troy) supported him with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Four Huracanes players scored in double figures. Even 30 points by Puerto Rican guard Jesus Verdejo (193-85, college: S.Florida) did not help to save the game for Abejas. American forward Marcus Jackson (202-82, college: Marquette, agency: Court Side) added 8 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Huracanes have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Pioneros. Loser Abejas dropped to the ninth position with 17 games lost. Huracanes will meet at home Soles (#6) in the next round. Abejas will play against Toros in Nuevo Laredo and hope to secure a win.
