Sixth ranked Gryphons (4-3) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging one of their biggest challengers Voyageurs (2-5) 79-76 in the fight for the fifth place. Voyageurs were ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 27-19 third quarter run of Gryphons. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Guard Kareem Malcolm (183) scored 19 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Zachary Angus (186) chipped in 21 points during the contest. Gryphons' coach Chris O'Rourke allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side forward Mike Hull (198-87) responded with 21 points and 9 rebounds and Alex Ratte scored 17 points. Four Voyageurs players scored in double figures. Gryphons moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Waterloo and Windsor. Voyageurs at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Western and Regina. Gryphons will play against Lions (#8) in Toronto, ON in the next round. Voyageurs will play at home against the league's second-placed Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay, ON and hope to get back on the winning track.
