Regular Season Round 12: La Palma - Menorca 69-72

The most exciting game of round 12 in the LEB Gold took place in La Palma. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of one of their biggest challengers UB La Palma (7-5) to eighth ranked Menorca Basquet (7-5) 72-69 in the game for the fifth place. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Menorca Basquet shot 61.7 percent from the field. It was a good game for power forward Roberto Morentin (206-81, college: Cent.Florida) who led his team to a victory with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Marc Blanch (195-82) contributed with 15 points for the winners. American forward Lucas Sikma (203-89, college: Portland) replied with 14 points and 4 assists and Dutch power forward Roeland Schaftenaar (211-88, college: Oregon St.) added 11 points in the effort for UB La Palma. Four UB La Palma players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Menorca Basquet moved-up to fifth place, which they share with La Palma and Melilla. Menorca Basquet will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UB La Palma will play on the road against the league's leader Canarias (#1) in Tenerife and is hoping to win this game.
