Date: December 3, 2011
The game between closely ranked teams ended with 7th ranked Weert's (1-8) road loss to sixth ranked Leeuwarden (5-5) 77-83 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Weert won third quarter 25-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leeuwarden made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Mexican forward Mark Sanchez (201-87, college: Boise St., agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Lance Jeter (190, college: Nebraska) who added 15 points and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Robbie Harman (185-88, college: Cent.Michigan, agency: Court Side) with 14 points and 5 assists and the former international forward Sjors Besseling (198-85, agency: Court Side) scored 18 points. Five Leeuwarden and four Weert players scored in double figures. Leeuwarden maintains sixth position with 5-5 record. Weert lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with eight games lost. Leeuwarden will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Weert will play against Rotterdam (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
