Regular Season Round 9: Hitachi SR - Toshiba BT 61-54

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (12-6) beat bottom-ranked Toshiba Thunders (2-16) in Osaka 61-54. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 14-7. But Toshiba Thunders won second period 16-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated on the defensive end, holding Toshiba Thunders to just 7 points in first quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 38 of its points in the paint compared to Toshiba Thunders' 18. The best player for the winners was international power forward Joji Takeuchi (206-85, agency: N.E.T.) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 16 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Swedish forward Christian Maraker (206-82, college: Pacific) chipped in 9 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Chris Moss (204-80, college: W.Virginia) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import center Scott Merritt (208-82, college: Marquette) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Hitachi Sunrockers. They maintain third place with 12-6 record having just two points less than leader Toyota Alvark. Toshiba Thunders lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Osaka Panasonic Trians.
