The game between closely ranked teams ended with first ranked Joensuun Kataja's (13-3) home victory over second-ranked Loimaan Korikonkarit (10-4) 91-68 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Joensuun Kataja. Loimaan Korikonkarit was better in fourth quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Loimaan Korikonkarit was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Jared Newson (195-84, college: Tenn-Martin, agency: Pro One Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. The former international power forward Sami Lehtoranta (205-79) contributed with 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American guard Martin Zeno (196-85, college: Texas Tech) answered with 11 points and 6 rebounds and international guard Mikko Koivisto (194-87, college: NC-Greensboro) added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Loimaan Korikonkarit. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Joensuun Kataja have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Joensuun Kataja maintains first place with 13-3 record. Loser Loimaan Korikonkarit keeps the second position with four games lost. Joensuun Kataja will face Torpan Pojat (#5) in Helsinki in the next round. Loimaan Korikonkarit will play at home against LrNMKY in Lappeenranta.
