Tenth-ranked Aris (1-5) made lots of trouble for third ranked Olympiakos (6-1) in Thessaloniki on Sunday. The visitors from Athens managed to secure only one-point victory 71-70. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 1 point. Olympiakos made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for international guard Vassilis Spanoulis (193-82, agency: Beo Basket) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points and 5 assists. International guard Konstantinos Sloukas (197-90) helped adding 10 points. At the losing side American point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) responded with 14 points and 4 assists and the other American import forward Sam Muldrow (205, college: S.Carolina) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Olympiakos keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Panionios. Loser Aris keeps the tenth place with five games lost. They share the position with KAOD. Olympiakos will meet at home KAOD (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Aris will play against Kavala.
