There was no surprise when 13th ranked Shanghai Sharks (2-4) were outplayed at home by sixth ranked Liaoning Hunters (4-3) 118-99 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 118-99. Liaoning Hunters looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Liaoning Hunters made 8 blocks. American forward Rodney Carney (201-84, college: Memphis) fired 27 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import forward Josh Powell (206-83, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Strategic Sports) chipped in 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). International center ZhaoXu Zhang (221-87, college: California) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Shanghai Sharks' coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Liaoning Hunters moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Guandong ST. Loser Shanghai Sharks dropped to the fourteenth position with four games lost. Liaoning Hunters will meet higher ranked Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
