There was no surprise in Madrid where 14th ranked Asefa Estudiantes (3-7) was defeated by third ranked Unicaja Malaga (8-2) 84-75. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-18. But Asefa Estudiantes won second period 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a very good performance for American guard Gerald Fitch (191-82, college: Kentucky, agency: SportsTalent) who helped to win the game recording 26 points. Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Unicaja Malaga's coach Jesus Mateo allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Antoine Wright (201-84, college: Texas A&M) replied with 18 points and 5 rebounds and center German Gabriel (207-80) added 18 points in the effort for Asefa Estudiantes. Unicaja Malaga have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 8-2 record behind leader FCB Regal. Asefa Estudiantes lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with seven games lost. Unicaja Malaga's next round opponent will be league's leader Regal FC Barcelona on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. Asefa Estudiantes' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Madrid Real Madrid.
