Regular Season Round 9: Aishin SH - Hokkaido L. 97-101

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Aishin Sea Horses (14-4) in Kariya on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Hokkaido L. (8-10) 101-97. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Aishin Sea Horses. Aishin Sea Horses trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 31-22 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 97-101 at the end of the game. Hokkaido L. looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for international guard Ryota Sakurai (194-83) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Senegalese swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware) contributed with 25 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Shinsuke Kashiwagi (183-81) answered with 14 points and 7 assists and international swingman Takatoshi Furukawa (190-87) added 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Aishin Sea Horses. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Hokkaido L. moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Panasonic T. and Tochigi Brex. Defending champion Aishin Sea Horses still keep top position with four games lost. They share it with Toyota Alvark. Hokkaido L. is looking forward to face Mitsubishi Dolphins (#7) in Nagoya in the next round. Aishin Sea Horses will play at home against Tochigi Brex (#6) and are hoping to win this game.
