Regular Season Round 7: Panionios - Ikaros 78-64

There was no surprise in Athens where 11th ranked Ikaros (1-6) was defeated by second ranked Panionios (6-1) 78-64. The game without a history. Panionios led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 63.2 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Alex Stepheson (205-87, college: USC) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Jon Diebler (198-88, college: Ohio St.) accounted for 13 points for the winning side. Four Panionios players scored in double figures. Australian-New Zealand center Aron Baynes (208-86, college: Washington St.) came up with 15 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Fanis Koumpouras (185-83, agency: FCM) added 11 points respectively for Ikaros in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Panionios have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Olympiakos. Ikaros at the other side dropped to the twelfth place with six games lost. Panionios' next round opponent will be AGOR (#7) in Rethymno which should be theoretically an easy game.
