Regular Season Round 33: Pioneros - Halc.Rojos 102-92

LNBP round 33 caused change at the leadership position. Fifth defeat of league's leader Halcones Rojos (23-5) against fifth ranked Pioneros (21-12) 102-92 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Halcones Rojos. The game was mostly controlled by Pioneros. Halcones Rojos managed to win third quarter 26-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Halcones Rojos 35-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American forward John Millsap (198-82, college: UTSA) who led his team to a victory with 28 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Gregory Grays (185-79, college: Detroit Mercy, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 25 points for the winners. Millsap is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86) answered with 17 points and 4 assists and Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) added 18 points and 4 assists in the effort for Halcones Rojos. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneros maintains fifth place with 21-12 record. Halcones Rojos at the other side dropped to the second position with five games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Fuerza Regia. Halcones Rojos will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Pioneros will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Halcones Rojos in Veracruz.
