Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Basquet Mallorca (6-7) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Melilla Baloncesto (8-5) 89-78. It looked good early as Basquet Mallorca took an 13-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Melilla Baloncesto took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 11 points. Melilla Baloncesto dominated on the defensive end, holding Basquet Mallorca to just 6 points in third quarter. Melilla Baloncesto players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Basquet Mallorca's players. It was a very good performance for point guard Juan Riera (188-79) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 9 assists. American guard Troy DeVries (193-82, college: N.Mexico) contributed with 25 points and 5 assists for the winners. Melilla Baloncesto's coach Gonzalo Garcia used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Shaun Green (203-87, college: Utah, agency: Limelight Hoops) answered with 17 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Joan Carles Bivia (185-85) added 16 points in the effort for Basquet Mallorca. Five Basquet Mallorca players scored in double figures. Melilla Baloncesto moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Menorca. Newly promoted Basquet Mallorca dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Melilla Baloncesto's next round opponent will be UB La Palma (#7) on the road.
