Second Stage Round 5: La Union - Obras 66-98

LigaA top team - Obras (5-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked La Union (2-3) in Formosa 98-66. The game was mostly controlled by Obras. La Union was better in third quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to La Union's 30. They outrebounded La Union 41-25 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. International power forward Juan Gutierrez (205-83) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. American forward Tony Washam (200-82, college: St.Vincent) contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Obras players scored in double figures. Obras' coach Julio Cesar Lamas felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Javier Caceres (201-85) answered with 9 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Gregory Lewis (198-78, college: Winthrop, agency: Dream Team Management) added 9 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for La Union. Obras have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-1 record. La Union at the other side dropped to the tenth position with three games lost. Obras' next round opponent will be Regatas Corrientes (#8) on the road and are hoping to win another game. La Union will play against Club 9 in Rio Tercero and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
