Regular Season Round 9: DongGuan L. - Shanghai S. 107-99

Very predictable result when sixth ranked DongGuan Leopards (5-4) won against at home 14th ranked Shanghai Sharks (2-6) 107-99 on Friday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-19. But Shanghai Sharks won second period 25-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Shanghai Sharks outrebounded DongGuan Leopards 51-33 including a 23-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 56.3 percentage. Shanghai Sharks were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Shavlik Randolph (208-83, college: Duke) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 17 rebounds. Nigerian-American guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) contributed with 23 points for the winners. American forward Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import forward Ryan Forehan-Kelly (196-80, college: California) added 24 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Shanghai Sharks. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shanghai Sharks' coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for DongGuan Leopards. They maintain sixth place with 5-4 record, which they share with Liaoning H. Shanghai Sharks lost their third game in a row. They keep the fourteenth position with six games lost. DongGuan Leopards will face higher ranked Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (#5) in Hangzhou in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Shanghai Sharks will play on the road against Fujian SBS XunXin (#10) in Jinjiang.
