Regular Season Round 10: West Coast - Logan T. 65-86
Date: December 9, 2011
Very expected game when 10th ranked West Coast Waves (1-12) were smashed by sixth ranked Logan Thunder (6-5) in Perth 86-65 on Friday. The game without a history. Logan Thunder led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to West Coast Waves' 22. Logan Thunder forced 23 West Coast Waves turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Logan Thunder made 7 blocks. Quite impressive performance for the former international guard Renae Camino (177-86) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 assists. International center Cayla Francis (192-89) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Logan Thunder players scored in double figures. The former international forward Rohanee Cox (182-80) replied with 30 points and 8 rebounds (made all of her nine free throws !!!) and guard Melissa Marsh (175-85) added 13 points and 4 steals in the effort for West Coast Waves. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Logan Thunder maintains sixth position with 6-5 record. West Coast Waves lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. Logan Thunder will face higher ranked Townsville Fire (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. West Coast Waves will play against the league's leader Adelaide Lightning (#1).
