Regular Season Round 9: STU Tbilisi - Kutaisi 78-107
Date: December 10, 2011
The game in Tbilisi supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Kutaisi (7-2) played at the court of 8th ranked STU (3-5). Kutaisi smashed STU 107-78. The game was mostly controlled by Kutaisi. STU was better in fourth quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-18 charity shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Kutaisi outrebounded STU 61-38 including a 42-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. It was a good game for forward Giorgi Barbakadze (203-91) who led his team to a victory with 31 points and 5 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all seven shots !!!). Center Richard Matiashvili (209-89) contributed with a triple-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists for the winners. Four Kutaisi players scored in double figures. Center Irakli Kobidze (208-90) answered with 13 points and 8 rebounds and guard George Khaniashvili (194-89) added 17 points in the effort for STU. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Kutaisi. They maintain third place with 7-2 record behind leader Armia. STU lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Kutaisi will have a break next round. STU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Dinamo Tbilisi.
