Regular Season Round 10: Taipans - Tigers 79-77

There was a minor upset when one of their biggest challengers Melbourne Tigers (6-6) were edged on the road by fifth ranked Cairns Taipans (6-5) 79-77 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-77. Cairns Taipans made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany, agency: Pro One Sports) scored 27 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and center Ian Crosswhite (210-82, college: Oregon) chipped in 13 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side international power forward Cameron Tragardh (209-83, college: ORU) responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds and American swingman Ronald Dorsey (197-83, college: McNeese St.) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Cairns Taipans moved-up to third place. Melbourne Tigers lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. Cairns Taipans will face league's leader New Zealand Breakers in Auckland in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Melbourne Tigers will play at home against Townsville Crocodiles in Wulguru and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
