There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Napoli BK Women (5-6) defeated at home higher ranked Orvieto (6-4) 50-46 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 15-9 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Napoli BK Women dominated on the defensive end, holding Orvieto to just 5 points in second quarter. Bulgarian power forward Milena Tomova (189-82, college: FIU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Forward Sara Baggioli (180-89) contributed with 14 points and 6 steals for the winners. International forward Francesca Mariani (188-85) answered with 13 points and 5 rebounds and guard Ada Puliti (174-85) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Orvieto. Napoli BK Women moved-up to seventh place in South, which they share with Battipaglia. Loser Orvieto keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Napoli BK Women will face Pomezia (#12) in Roma in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Orvieto will play at home against C.U.S. Chieti (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
