Regular Season Round 9: Dinamo Tbilisi - Olimpi 66-99

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Olympus (#2) and Dinamo Tbilisi (#6). Dinamo Tbilisi was crushed at home by 33 points 66-99 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Dinamo Tbilisi. The game was mostly controlled by Olympus. Dinamo Tbilisi managed to win second period 26-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Olympus dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Dinamo Tbilisi's 44. They outrebounded Dinamo Tbilisi 49-31 including a 39-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Olympus looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Dinamo Tbilisi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international guard Giorgi Gamqrelidze (183-86, agency: Interperformances) stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists for the winners and Czech center Ivo Hoger (225-82, agency: Global Sports Plaza) chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds. Five Olympus players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Dave Noel (191-85, college: Cent.Florida) with 15 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import forward Keyon Carter (203-88, college: ODU, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Olympus (7-1) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Newly promoted Olympus maintains second place behind leader Armia. Dinamo Tbilisi at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with STU Tbilisi. Olympus' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Samedicino-Academia.
