The most exciting game of round 6 in the LigaA took place in La Banda. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 9th ranked Olimpico de La Banda (2-3) to third ranked Sionista (5-1) 66-65 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Olimpico de La Banda. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 19-6. But Olimpico de La Banda won second period 21-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Sionista won last quarter 19-20. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Olimpico de La Banda to just 6 points in first quarter. 26 personal fouls committed by Olimpico de La Banda helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international swingman Matias Sandes (201-84) scored 9 points and 18 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Puerto Rican guard Johwen Villegas (193-85, college: FIU) chipped in 13 points during the contest. Sionista's coach Sebastian Svetliza used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American forward John DeGroat (198-85, college: Pittsburgh) with 16 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized Italian guard Eduardo Villares (188-79) scored 12 points and 4 assists. Sionista keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Obras and Penarol. Olimpico de La Banda at the other side dropped to the tenth place with three games lost. They share the position with Lanus. Sionista is looking forward to face Regatas Corrientes (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Olimpico de La Banda will play against Lanus in Buenos Aires and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
