Regular Season Round 14: Castelletto - Santarcangelo 67-52

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Castelletto (6-8) defeated at home 5th ranked Santarcangelo (4-10) 67-52 on Sunday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Castelletto dominated on the defensive end, holding Santarcangelo to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Santarcangelo 44-27 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guard Andrea Piazza (187-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Simone Cotani (201-81) contributed with 7 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Forward Giorgio Broglia (198-86) replied with 16 points and 5 rebounds and center Andrea Ancellotti (212-88) added 8 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Santarcangelo. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Castelletto moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Anagni and Recanati. Newly promoted Santarcangelo keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Castelletto will face Comsum.it SI (#4) in Siena in the next round. Santarcangelo will play at home against Firenze and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
