Regular Season Round 11: B.Gais Neptune - UL Eagles 71-76

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked B.Gais Neptune (6-4) in Cork on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked UL Eagles (6-6) 76-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of B.Gais Neptune. Strangely B.Gais Neptune outrebounded UL Eagles 51-29 including a 37-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Robert Taylor (188-83, college: Rider) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 4 assists. The former international guard Scott Kinevane (175-87) helped adding 12 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Taylor is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American power forward Ronald Thompson (208-81, college: Morehouse) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals and forward Ian McLoughlin (185-85) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 14 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Four B.Gais Neptune players scored in double figures. B.Gais Neptune's coach Mark Scannell rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. UL Eagles maintains third place with 6-6 record having four points less than leader UCC Demons. B.Gais Neptune at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. UL Eagles are looking forward to face league's second-placed 11890 Killester in Dublin in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. B.Gais Neptune will play on the road against Belfast Star and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
