There was no surprise when 9th ranked Assignia Manresa (5-6) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Meridiano Alicante (8-3) 76-62 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Meridiano Alicante. Assignia Manresa was better in second period 11-6. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Assignia Manresa 41-21 including a 32-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Bulgarian forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized American power forward Lamont Barnes (208-78, college: Temple) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Meridiano Alicante players scored in double figures. American-Dominican power forward Josh Asselin (211-78, college: Michigan, agency: Duran International) produced 15 points and the former international guard Roman Montanez (193-79) added 11 points respectively for the hosts. Assignia Manresa's coach rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Meridiano Alicante have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Caja Laboral and Unicaja. Loser Assignia Manresa keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Meridiano Alicante will face UCAM Murcia (#17) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Assignia Manresa will play against the league's second-placed Real Madrid (#2).
