Regular Season Round 9: Pozzuoli - Faenza 83-96

The most interesting game of round 9 in the A1 was a home defeat of 7th ranked Pall.Pozzuoli (4-5) to sixth ranked CA Faenza (5-4) 96-83 in the game for the sixth place. The game was mostly controlled by CA Faenza. Pall.Pozzuoli managed to win fourth quarter 28-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Pall.Pozzuoli to just 6 points in first quarter. CA Faenza shot 63.6 percent from the field. They also forced 21 Pall.Pozzuoli turnovers. It was a great shooting night for CA Faenza especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. The former international guard Paola Mauriello (185-81) stepped up and scored 30 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and Serbian guard Marija Eric (164-83) chipped in 22 points and 4 assists. Four CA Faenza players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Kelly Mazzante (183-82, college: Penn St.) with 32 points and 6 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and forward Melissa Fazio (182-79, college: St.Bonaventure) scored 13 points. CA Faenza maintains sixth place with 5-4 record. Pall.Pozzuoli at the other side keeps the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with Basket Parma. CA Faenza are looking forward to face league's leader Taranto at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pall.Pozzuoli will play against Comense (#4) in Como and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
