Regular Season Round 20: Toyama Grouses - Niigata Albirex 102-76

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Toyama Grouses (7-9) outscored at home 5th ranked Niigata Albirex (8-8) 102-76 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Toyama Grouses. Niigata Albirex was better in third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyama Grouses dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata Albirex's 32. They outrebounded Niigata Albirex 40-29 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Toyama Grouses especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Haakim Johnson (201-87, college: Pikeville) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 4 steals (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and swingman Brian Harper (206-85, college: Paine, agency: Pro One Sports) who added 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. Guard Nile Murry (193-83, college: TCU) responded with 19 points and forward Erron Maxey (198-78, college: Providence) scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toyama Grouses maintains seventh position with 7-9 record. Loser Niigata Albirex dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. Toyama Grouses will face higher ranked Chiba Jets (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
