The biggest surprise of round 14 in 1Liga was guest Start Gdynia's (10-3) road victory over second-ranked P.Cukier SIDEn (9-4) 83-73 on Wednesday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Start Gdynia. P.Cukier SIDEn managed to win third quarter 26-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Start Gdynia won last quarter 15-6. They dominated on the defensive end, holding P.Cukier SIDEn to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Start Gdynia made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 P.Cukier SIDEn turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Start Gdynia made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was guard Piotr Smigielski (190-89) who scored 25 points. Forward Krzysztof Krajniewski (199-89) chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds. Swingman Przemyslaw Lewandowski (204-78, agency: Promotex) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and forward Arkadiusz Kobus (197-86, agency: Promotex) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Start Gdynia keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Sokol Lancut. Newly promoted P.Cukier SIDEn dropped to the third place with four games lost. They share the position with Spojnia and MKS DG. Start Gdynia is looking forward to face AZS Szczecin (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. P.Cukier SIDEn will play against Olimp MKS Start Lublin (#12) and is hoping to win this game.
