Regular Season Round 19: Salon Vilpas - KTP 74-71

A very close game took place in Salon between Salon Vilpas and KTP-Basket. Ninth ranked Salon Vilpas (6-11) got a very close home victory over 10th ranked KTP-Basket (5-14). Salon Vilpas managed to escape with a 3-point win 74-71 in the fight for the ninth place. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 48-41 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for point guard Roope Ahonen (187-90, agency: FCM) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points and 6 assists. American forward John Fields (205-88, college: Tennessee) helped adding 6 points and 22 rebounds. Salon Vilpas' coach Mikko Tupamaki used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Tim Blue (205-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import power forward Amal McCaskill (211-73, college: Marquette) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four KTP-Basket players scored in double figures. Salon Vilpas maintains ninth place with 6-11 record. KTP-Basket lost their eleventh game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 14 games lost. Salon Vilpas will meet league's second-placed Loimaan Korikonkarit on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. KTP-Basket will play against UU-Korihait (#7) in Uusikaupunki and hope to secure a win.
