There was no surprise in Buenos Aires where 11th ranked Olimpico de La Banda (2-4) was defeated by sixth ranked Lanus (4-3) 77-71 on Wednesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Olimpico de La Banda trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 26-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 71-77 at the end of the game. Lanus made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The former international guard Mariano Byro (195-82) fired 15 points for the winners. Panamanian power forward Jamaal Levy (206-83, college: Wake Forest, agency: Priority Sports) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Five Lanus players scored in double figures. American forward John DeGroat (198-85, college: Pittsburgh) produced 27 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and Panamanian power forward Jose Lloreda (201-80, college: LSU, agency: Paris Global Sports) added 11 points respectively for lost side. Lanus have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Quimsa. Loser Olimpico de La Banda dropped to the thirteenth position with four games lost. Lanus will face Atenas (#11) in Cordoba in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Olimpico de La Banda will play on the road against Quilmes MP in Mar del Plata.
